Additional Instructions for Adobe Photoshop CS3

Filling type with imagery

You can use the imagery from a layer in one file as a fill pattern for another image's type layer. To create this effect, open a multi-layer file that contains the inagery you want to use (the source), then open the file that contains the type you want to fill (the target). In the source file, activate the layer containing the imagery you want to use, use the Select menu to select all, then use the Edit menu to copy the selection. In the target file, press [Ctrl for PC] or [Command for Mac] while clicking the "T" on the type layer to which the imagery will be applied, then click Paste Into on the edit menu. The imagery will appear within the type.

Projects to be accomplished during the semester course.

Personal Logo Project (Photoshop)

Objective: To develop a personal logo with emphasis on the initials using Photoshop. This logo should include the student's initials (all your inititals or a subset of them) along with a creative background. The background should not be so dominant as to minimize the inititals. As a suggestion the student can develop something around their family crest or a crest that the student has created that includes the student's initials in conjunction with the crest.
Method: Student will work alone on the project. All layers should be named and used. If there are items in the Personal Logo that the student has developed and may not be obvious to the teacher the student should prepare a writeup in Microsoft Word of the actions taken to develop the project so the teacher has the best possible appreciation of the work that went into the preparation of the project. If everything in the Personal Logo is abundantly clear no write up is necessary to be submitted. When all work is complete the student will drop the final product in a Photoshop (PSD) format into the Drop Off Folder for their class (P3, P4 or P5) also include any writeup with you name in the file. The student should name the persoanl logo file FullStudentName Personal Logo. If the student should enhance their Personal Logo after having dropped off an earlier version they should place a number after their name, i.e. FullStudentName1 Personal Logo and resubmit it to the Drop Off Folder. Only the last submitted personal logo will be graded and all others will be deleted.
Tools to be used: Students will use Photoshop, Internet and scanner as necessary to design the layout for the personal logo.

Personal Logo File Correctly Named

Yearbook Montage (Photoshop)

Objective: To develop a photographic spread or montage of the student's life and activities as if they were going to place this page in the back of the PVI year book.
Method: Students should obtain pictures of their childhood and any other pictures they might like to display on the montage. They will scan them into the computer and utilize the Photoshop tools to arrange them attractively for the montage. When placing images into the Montage make sure that all edges are smoothed (feathered). Remember this Montage is about you the student and the images used should be primarily about you and your family, not sports and car images as examples. Make sure all layers are properly labeled and used in the development of the Montage. If a layer is not used delete it. If a layer is used it should have a name that is descriptive of what it is. The student should prepare a writeup in Microsoft Word of the actions taken to develop the project so the teacher has the best possible understanding of the work that went into the preparation of the project. When all work is complete the student will drop the final product into Teachers Apple/Drop Off Folder for their class.
Tools to be used: Students will use the camera, scanner and Photoshop as necessary to design the layout.
